Current Electricity Class 12 Physics: Notes, Questions, MCQs & Revision 2026-27

Current Electricity Class 12 Physics: Notes, Questions, MCQs & Revision 2026–27
Chapter 3 study hub — Learn → Practise → Solve → Revise → Test
Chapter 3 in one place: Use this hub to move through Current Electricity systematically. Start with the notes, practise chapter questions, test concepts with MCQs and case-based questions, solve numericals, revise the formula sheet, attempt Assertion–Reason questions, and finish with the chapter test.

CBSE 2026–27 Syllabus Scope

The official CBSE 2026–27 Physics curriculum places Current Electricity in Unit II and assigns 17 marks to the unit at unit level. CBSE does not publish a separate fixed chapter-only mark allocation for Chapter 3, so this hub covers the complete prescribed scope rather than claiming a chapter-specific weightage.

Exam Traps to Check Before the Test

  • Current vs current density: current is measured in A; current density is measured in A m⁻².
  • Resistance vs resistivity: resistance depends on dimensions as well as material; resistivity is a material property under specified physical conditions.
  • Electron drift vs conventional current: electron drift direction is opposite to conventional current direction in a metallic conductor.
  • Ohm's law: check that the required physical conditions, especially temperature, remain constant.
  • Cell voltage: for a discharging cell with internal resistance, V = ε − Ir.
  • Parallel cells: identical cells in parallel retain the emf of one cell; their equivalent internal resistance is reduced.
  • Kirchhoff signs: choose a loop direction and apply the sign convention consistently.
  • Wheatstone bridge: at balance, the galvanometer has zero current because the relevant junctions are at equal potential.

What Makes This Chapter Hub Different

Current online resources often mix older or broader material into Chapter 3, including meter bridge, potentiometer and galvanometer-conversion content. Those topics appear on some current third-party pages, but the official 2026–27 CBSE Physics curriculum lists the Chapter 3 scope as current, drift/mobility, Ohm's law and V–I characteristics, power/energy, resistivity/conductivity, temperature dependence, emf/internal resistance, cell combinations, Kirchhoff's rules and Wheatstone bridge. This hub therefore keeps the core resource set aligned to the current official scope instead of importing topics simply because they appear in older or broader resources.

Original Practice vs Official CBSE Material

The Notes, Important Questions, MCQs, Numericals, Case-Based Questions, Assertion–Reason Questions and Chapter Test on Learn Revise Hub are original study/practice material. They should not be treated as official CBSE questions or verified previous-year questions. Where a resource discusses CBSE pattern or syllabus, the official CBSE curriculum and official Sample Question Paper/Marking Scheme pages are the authoritative references.

Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 Connection

Current Electricity follows the two Electrostatics chapters in the Class 12 Physics sequence. Revising electric potential and related electrostatic concepts from Chapter 2 can make the transition into circuit potential difference, cells and network problems smoother.

Final readiness check: If you can explain the concepts without notes, solve mixed numericals without formula hunting, handle case-based questions, justify Assertion–Reason answers and complete the chapter test accurately under time pressure, you have covered the Current Electricity learning cycle.
